- hello! it's weeknotes time!
- it's my birthday this week, and for the last few years i've taken my birthday week off, and this week is no exception. someone bought me some gifts from my wishlist, if it was you please make yourself known to be showered with thanks!!!! if you too wish for a thanks shower here's the links, i also take birthday wishes in cash and heartfelt email or comment!
- some of the things on my wishlist are mad expensive cos it's also for me to track stuff. i put stuff on there and let it stew before removing it if i get it, get bored of it, or find a thing that's equivalent. e.g. i used to have a cute freewrite on there but realised that i have a remarkable 2 and they do a keyboard for it, so really that's a similar thing with a bigger screen, get over yourself, etc. i need to do this more with clothes especially lol, since a brand i liked shut down (RIP Joanie Clothing, you were a real one) i haven't done much new clothing shopping besides like tights and things, but i do think i could ponder my vinted and "fabrics i'm gonna use to sew a garment, honest" purchases more lol. i did a challenge to not buy clothes for a year and did it fairly easily in... 2024? i also don't add reams to my wardrobe/wear things till they are full of holes or i actively no longer like them, just always feel a bit uneasy about my clothing consumption even though it's way better than it used to be.
- in a way i wish i didn't care about clothes at all, it seems relaxing. i'd just buy whatever feels nice, had ethical sourcing and was affordable to me lol. we're befriending our "demons" though, so i am accepting my rose-based mentality a lot more. what is a life if not a chance to drape ourselves with beautiful things?
- i really love my birthday but don't really do much about it, other than the PTO. i think i used to dislike it more when i was younger for myriad reasons. i don't do much with friends just cos i feel like it's a lot of pressure to organise stuff and cross the streams of different friendship groups and hope everyone has a nice time. my brain runs through the worst case scenarios of them hating each other and being forced to pick sides. i know this is hyperbolic catastrophising but i also know i don't want to risk it lol.
- oh yeah, i have a gift for you too! my birthday playlist (on youtube! or of course my birthday playlist on qobuz!
- should probably try and get out and practice cycling this week, but will i?
- had an interesting convo with a friend likening scrolling social media to smoking, i didn't agree with a lot of what he said but one thing stayed with me. i do find it wild how often people say they actively dislike scrolling and still do it, and i wonder if nudging in that way helps people more than caps and stuff? i have a thing on my phone that tells me how long i've been in an app, and it doesn't dissuade me much but "are you having fun right now?" or a similar battery of rotating questions might shift something? tbf i also rarely feel like i'm scrolling to scroll these days lol. vinted is the closest i get to that, and it's still only at times, and i know it's cos my brain is doing the "you might be missing out on the deal of the century" bargaining.
- i'm debating starting month notes and year notes now a friend told me about their commonplacing practices with weeknotes in paper planners, but maybe that's a lot of navel gazing for one blog. i will consider it!
- reading lots of articles at the minute, i think a highlight for me was a soft manifesto.
- did a little sewing (put elasticated sleeve cuffs on a dress i took the bias bound cuff off cos it was way too small for my arm lol) and i was shocked and astounded how long such a "small" task took me! i think i need to have some grace with myself for sure but i also hope i speed up now i know where all my tools are and am more in the mindset. last week i repaired a jumpsuit that had been out of commision for more than a year as well! on a roll. i just need to actually finish one of my longer sewing projects and i'll feel so good!
- i was too hasty saying no video essays ever cos apparently they still siren call me, so maybe another thing to move in silence about and surprise everyone by releasing when it's done lol, like reading. not that anyone is impressed by reading until you get into the big leagues really (more than or at least 100 read a year i think), just that talking about my reading and talking about video essays seems to have filled the void of actually making them...
- speaking of making things, i haven't been working on my PWA/reminders website thing much but hopefully this week is my moment! i am really enjoying in progress for thinking about how i relate to posting and creating, two weeks in a row i've just asked questions so i want to have an actual update before posting this time (you can't see other people's posts if you haven't posted that week!).
- been eating moroccan chicken traybakes, mushroom risotto, aubergine pasta, and copious amounts of greek yoghurt with granola. i have been drinking chai lattes, matcha lattes, and very little coffee.
