- hello, from the land of grey skies and hopefully sunnier dispositions. 🌤️
- i'm using my notes site again, mostly to think about "DIY/independent PhD" stuff, progressive web apps, and about writing itself, as per on the latter.
- i'm feeling a lot less down and very glad about that! i think it's a fragile good mood but still happy to have one!
- i've been watching a lot of veritasium and realising how much physics i just wasn't taught! i did double science at GCSE which I'm guessing from thinking about it was mostly chemistry and biology, but who knows, my secondary school was terrible at the time. enjoying listening to things i don't really understand and having more way more questions than answers by the ends of the videos.
- if anyone has successfully set up a machine sewing group from scratch in the uk outside of london i'd love to hear about it (or if you know of anyone i should chat to about it). a stretch i think for the people i know but shy bairns get nowt! i think once i can cycle it would be a matter of getting a trailer or something to transport a bunch of inexpensive machines between places, but right now i lack both a bunch of machines and transportation, so it feels very hard lol.
- been thinking a lot about ai and how it seems to leave all the most boring parts of everything to the human operator. i think even with my struggles to enjoy the learning and growing processes required for a lot of things, i still am sadly not the kind of person who'd want to snap their fingers and just have the desired outcome. i kind of want to know that i was the one who achieved the thing, if that makes sense? it's a stupid impulse in a lot of ways - "i'd rather work hard than win the lottery" rotten brain take - but i also think when it comes to learning things, just getting the end result of the thing is just less fun and less growthful. i get not everyone needs growth in every aspect of the ways they're using ai also, i just don't have many areas where i wouldn't rather struggle and grow?
- i'm doing a lot of values interrogation at the moment as well. at the moment i'd say my values are sustainability, joy, courage, rapport and experimentation. i used to have "justice" in there and i think it works as a group value better than a personal one; what does it mean to be just in my day to day life? I also think curiosity should return as a aspirational value again, but maybe that's covered by experimentation and courage? rapport BTW to me here is a mixture of great conversation and close friendship and comradery, as well as having harmonious relationships in general, so that word is doing a lot of work. sustainability i am also using weirdly, to cover ecological concerns but also the ability to do work and play i feel like i could do for the long term, without burning out or hurting myself, or at least that i feel like i have considered whether i will be able to do a thing for only a season. i love values! what are your values, if you know?
- i should probably rewrite my projects page.
- really enjoying discord at the moment, i should try matrix again now i feel more sure i'm enjoying the small web. trued out aether as i thought it was a more of a crossposter in purpose, but i still really love the vibe and will use it more! i am slowly becoming more enchanted by the small web and meadow's stuff has a lot to do with it! they also have a guestbook app that is delightfully old web style, and i use it on my site too (now on its own page).
- speaking off enjoying the small web more, i really want to find more blogs to love so have been scrolling somewhat excessively on things like blogroll.org and sitescroll.fun. also the blogrolls of people on my blogroll, which i am embarrassed i had forgotten about as an avenue until today.
- i've been eating thai green curry, tomato and broccoli quiche, kimchi and cheddar toasties and sweet potato quesadillas. i've been drinking chai, water, and matcha lattes. i'm still listening to my birthday playlist that i mentioned last week, but mostly not listening to anything!
