- hey! hope you had a great week ☺️
- i have survived another rotation around the sun, my birthday week off work was so restful and good! highly recommend if your life allows for such indulgences.
- being in a new city is weird as i feel like i'm no longer that new (six months!) and also that everything is in an in between state between feeling familiar and still feeling really new. i am getting there i feel!
- thinking a lot about community, friendship, family and kinship and the ways these connections are helped and impeded by the technologies we have available. started working on a new video essay in this vein, gone back on my word already lol. we'll see if i actually release it!
- also thinking a lot about obligation and permission (specifically in terms and conditions for apps and websites, but also in social media and other places where people say yes first and find out that was an oops later) and the ways in which people assign blame when someone hasn't been seen to do their "due diligence". when is that victim blaming is i guess what i wonder? does it matter?
- haven't worked on my reminders progressive web app at all, but that's alright. there are many other weeks in the year.
- haven't been updating my notes or doing much interstitial journalling, but have been writing to projects individually, so can't work out if this is good or bad lol. notetaking can be a fun activity in its own right — research as a leisure activity really resonated with me — but i feel weird just collecting without knowing where it's leading? possibly need to be more playful with it and see if i ever get interesting connections going on, but usually what works for me is having stubs of ideas written out, grouped under where i think they will end up, and then revisiting them regularly to see if any new ideas have come up... so perhaps i don't need to make a big deal about this at all lol. just do what i feel like forever.
- really enjoyed this video about someone teaching themselves electronics, i assume many such series exist on youtube but for some reason it felt a lot more doable after watching this lol. i'm not sure i have time right at the moment but might join a local hackspace and see how i get on.
- also really enjoyed a video about the shakers and their furniture and architecture. will be watching the testament of ann lee at some point!
- very excited about sewing again recently, and also about vinted for getting books about sewing and ready-to-wear clothing. i really want to make a well fitting pair of elastic/half-elastic or otherwise adjustable trousers, and a nice dress. i've been looking at the top down centre out method for trouser fitting, and have a few dress patterns in mind. it's all coming together!
- i've been eating cake, mandarin orange jelly and pizza. i've been drinking elderflower cordial, milk and rooibos tea.
