weeknotes #68

- hey! it's weeknotes number sixty eight! what a large and ever growing amount of weeknotes!
- the fact that you can't wear glasses to try on glasses, and thus have to squint and ask other people how you look, is a crime. i hope i picked well cos they're so expensive, and i'm way more sure about one pair lol.
- been thinking a lot about community and "what i owe to others" at the minute, after conversations i do think i would do well to try and find places where people are less plugged into the tech hive mind (i was gonna say for better or worse, but definitely for better lol) to try and make the things happening in the tech-o-sphere more transparent to quote unquote outsiders. i also think i want to do everything and will continue weeknoting and seeing if i ever have big technical thoughts to say on here, but maybe instagram and the other platforms of the devil will see more of me lol.
- on community i do wish it was easier to get critical mass for things like forums. i would love a forum, maybe shared with some other webby people, but i dunno how you do the "gathering together disparate groups and individuals sustainably" part.
- i have been incredibly sleepy this week, i think in a clinical way sleepy not "i burn the candle at both ends, it will not last the night" sleepy. i wish to go back to feeling in control of my tiredness, but i also don't know when the last time i felt "refreshed" by a night of sleep was. it feels mythical to me, the holy grail. you guys get refreshed?
- worked on some older bit of writing this week (one of them started in 2023, wow), one about sex and AI, and the other one is about death lol. i have no idea where i'm going to put the former one as it doesn't really fit on this blog but i am enjoying working on it. latter is just to keep the gears in my head turning, i don't think it has juice.
- finished moral ambition this week, the book i was not enjoying, i continued to not enjoy it but it's funny how much i find myself seduced by annoying utilitarian arguments. i want everything to be that simple too!
- been struggling a lot with prioritisation in my private life at the moment, mostly leading to procrastination where i do none of the things i intended to do instead! got some helpful advice on mastodon, one was to add a sentence or a very small part to every project to see if any have electricity in that moment and you can work on them more, and if not at least you've kept in contact. the other was more about community and that being the thing to keep in mind with writing, but i find that a little harder to action. as much as i know i'm not writing to no one it often feels like people will read or not read completely at random! so it doesn't help too much with choosing topics.
- i'd like to make a dictionary project of some kind but struggling to think what i could document, other than self-dictionarising, i guess it could be a thing other people could have their own version of a personal dictionary? if that sounds interesting let me know anyway lol. i want to do more coding in my own time but i always make everything too complicated and give up!
- went to a jennifer's body cabaret night and screening, it was very good, i forgot they canonically kiss in that movie lol. was a very rowdy screening which is what i like.
- i have been eating sour tiny sweets, a lot of bread, wraps, more lebkuchen and chocolate loaf cake.
- i have been drinking not enough coffee, early grey tea with oat milk, chai lattes and a little water.
- i hope you've had a fantastic week and next week treats you so well. 💟
- see you next time?
