- hello! i hope you're having a great week. it's weeknotes o'clock!
- i am reading way too much and not finishing anything so i am calling an official moratorium on not talking about the books i'm reading till i have finished. i am actively reading: meander, spiral, explode by jane alison which is about non-typical story structure, and is the first time i have ever thought "damn i would really benefit from some exercises in this writing book"; steering the craft by ursula k le guin, which may be affecting my views on exercises on the former, started off listening to it and was like, damn i need this as an ebook so i can easily keep up; and how to fall in love with the future by rob hopkins, making me wish i thought hope was the key to the problem of getting people to believe in a better future, but it's nice to hold a warm kernel of hope in your hands you know?
- in terms of articles and short things a lot of meta-writing there too, sorry: how to build a research practice (excuse the substack); there will come soft rains by ray bradbury for obvious temporally related reasons; more people should write as i am obviously on one; and the mcphee method as i'm so happy to find other people who do the 'chuck all your notes in a pile, and reorder and embroider them till they start to resemble something' method, and especially happy to see it written about at length.
- watched a great in-progress series on youtube called median arcana, "a first-aid kit for creative resilience". an essay library compatriot also made an amazing video about james bond, i learnt a lot about both the character and its/his rise to popularity.
- as you may be able to tell i am currently DELIGHTING in the written and spoken word lol. what are you reading and watching and consuming and obsessing over?
- less positively, my boredom with the state of tech is ever present. i wish the first question out of people's mouths when they find out i'm a web developer or work with computers wasn't "What do you think about AI?"
- trying to find out more about data center cooling, as apparently air cooling uses less water, sure, but i'm immediately like "does that mean the area around the data center is hotter, even if imperceptibly? are there no drawbacks to it other than cost?" and other fun questions.
- eating so much ice cream, lots of delicious pasta dishes, and vegan burgers for some reason. drinking so many icy drinks, especially fizzy apple juice, and aperol and hugo spritz.
